Superintendent's Message

Dear Amityville Resident,

The Board and I were happy to see the community support the proposed 2013-14 school district budget by a substantial mark of 540-296. We thank all those who took the time to exercise their right to vote.

It is clear by this outcome that our residents recognize the importance of a rigorous academic program filled with extracurricular opportunities from which our students greatly benefit. Whether you live or work here, there’s a level of commitment to children that is unparalleled in most communities, particularly given the economic challenges here in Amityville.

In this tax levy cap era we must continue to think creatively, maximize every dollar and ensure that children are the beneficiaries of this. Despite some difficult decisions that needed to be made in order to reduce costs in recent years, the 2013-14 budget will allow us to continue moving forward. We have experienced some great successes this year and look forward to sharing many more with you in the future.

On behalf of the Board of Education I thank you for your unwavering support and look forward to continuing our collaboration for the months and years to come. I also would like to take a moment to thank Dr. William Fanning for his hard work in developing the budget.

Congratulations to Terry Fulton and Kathleen Corbett for their victories in the Board election; I look forward to working with them to build upon our successes and further improve the quality of education in Amityville.

Once again, special thanks to retiring Board of Education president Juliette Jordon-Thompson and past Board president Michele Sikhrangkur for their many years of dedicated service to our schools. I am confident both will remain contributors in the strong partnership between the Board, the schools and residents, which makes Amityville UFSD the fabric of our community.

Sincerely,

Dr. John R. Williams
