Edmund W. Miles’ eighth graders take the next step to high school

Eighth graders at Edmund W. Miles Middle School in Amityville were proud to take the next step towards high school during their moving-up ceremony on June 25. 

Held at Amityville Memorial High School’s auditorium, students were recognized by Acting Principal Ms. Denise Ragland and Assistant Principal Mr. Kenneth Coard. Members of the Board of Education and administration were on hand to applaud this milestone in the students’ academic career. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gina Talbert and Ms. Ragland addressed the students with words of encouragement. 

Throughout the ceremony, Edmund W. Miles’ principals recognized students with several academic awards such as the Presidential Award for Educational Excellence, the Presidential Award for Educational Achievement, and the New York State Triple C Award. 

The district looks forward to the journeys of these students and wishes the Class of 2029 luck and success in their high school careers.

Northwest Elementary School’s second graders move up in Amityville

Second graders at Northwest Elementary School in Amityville completed another step in their educational journeys when they were recognized for their achievements at the moving-up ceremony at Amityville Memorial High School on June 25.

Hosted by Principal Kathleen Hyland, the ceremony kicked off with a musical performance under the direction of music teacher Ms. Nicole Altamura. Following a video in which students shared their memories of Northwest, teachers from each class announced their graduates and handed out completion certificates. Additionally, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gina Talbert addressed Northwest’s second graders and commended them on completing this milestone.

Each student received a hug from their teachers and they were greeted by district administrators and Northwest’s principals as they walked across the stage during the moving-up ceremony.

Northeast Elementary School’s STRIVE hold moving-up ceremony

Northeast Elementary School’s STRIVE students in Amityville held a festive moving-up ceremony in the school’s gymnasium.  thumbnail267328

On June 24, Northeast Elementary School’s STRIVE students in Amityville held a festive moving-up ceremony in the school’s gymnasium.  

Each STRIVE teacher recognized students with certificates for their remarkable achievements during the 2024-2025 school year. The youngsters performed songs for their family members and Principal Dr. Pauline Collins commended each student for all of their accomplishments. Additionally, each scholar received a certificate to recognize their academic excellence.  

At the end of the ceremony, Northeast students enjoyed tasty treats with their family members. The district congratulates our STRIVE students on taking the next step in their educational journeys.

Amityville Memorial High School’s Class of 2025 flies high

There was a sea of red caps and gowns as Amityville Memorial High School’s Class of 2025 held their commencement ceremony at the school’s gymnasium on June 28. 

During the ceremony, hundreds of graduates received diplomas and commendations for their hard work and dedication to their education and achievements. Valedictorian Jesus Barrios and Salutatorian Alessandra Pons addressed their fellow graduates and spoke about perseverance through challenging times. 

Also addressing the graduates were Amityville Memorial High School Principal Dr. John Cardone, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gina Talbert, Class President Adonis Lyons and Board of Education President Lisa Johnson. 

The district congratulates all members of the Class of 2025 and wishes them luck and happiness as they embrace the next step in life!
